Pygmy masks

As can be seen there is a new album - pygmy masks.  These are in response to a request for a dozen papier mache masks for use in a pantomime of Robinson Crusoe this Christmas.  Children will be wearing them (I'm guessing 8-10 years old) and playing the parts of pygmies.

In a departure from previous masks these are not built on a detachable template, but instead incorporate a basic structure cut from a rectangle of card which achieves its curves by a few slits in the top edge allowing overlap.  Using the advice I provided in my entry on creating masks (that I hadn't actually used before myself) I have added a few horns to the basic shape.  These spikes have been cut from eggboxes.

The first masks were fairly abstract half face masks, but as I've tried to vary them I've noted animal resemblances forming - the rabbit/goat, big cat, elephant (with pygmy trunk), lion...  I have about four more to design.  I need to get some feedback on whether all masks should be very similar, or wildly different.  Painting style to be decided later.

Is a blog possible?

This space has been running how long?  All I've used it for is photos.  There must be something better to do with it.

Inspired (again) by the singing librarian I thought I'd write a blog entry.

Recently finished performing in Something Blue (see photo of poster in gallery).  Tonight get publicity photos taken for The Merry Widow in some nice gardens, wearing white tie and tail.  (the emoticon is intended as 'cool' despite being titled 'hot').

This may not take off.
